Sidhu’s kin to approach CJI, Union Law minister

The family members of national-level shooter and advocate Sukhmanpreet Singh alias Sippy Sidhu, who was killed in 2015, on Thursday demanded that the acting Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, Justice Sabina, be relieved of her duties as her daughter had been arrested for murder.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested a woman identified as Kalyani Singh in connection with the murder of Sippy Sidhu. Sippy was murdered in a public park in sector three Chandigarh on the night of September 20, 2015.
Sippy’s family has been alleging the role of Kalyani Singh in the murder from Day One with Deepinder having repeatedly claimed that it was Kalyani who had called her son to the Sector 27 park before his murder.
The family of Sippy Sidhu said that they will soon meet the Chief Justice of India (CJI), and  the Union Law Minister to put forth their demand as they feared that Justice Sabina may interfere in the investigations.Best of Express PremiumDelhi Confidential: Relics, BondingPremiumUPSC Key-June 16, 2022: Why ‘Militarisation of Society’ to ‘Section 295A ...PremiumExplained: What the US Fed’s biggest rate hike in 28 years means for Indi...Premium10 lakh jobs: Existing govt vacancies to account for most, 90% at lowest ...Premium

Interacting with media persons at her Mohali Phase 3 residence, Sippy Sidhu’s mother, Deepinder Kaur Sidhu, said that the government must step in and relieve the Himachal Chief Justice for the sake of a free and fair probe.
Deepinder said that the family had been waiting for long for the arrest of the accused and all they wanted now was the culprits being brought to justice.

“I lost my son, but now the truth is in front of the people. However, we still apprehend pressure from the judge. I appeal to the government to relieve her (Chief Justice Sabina) of all her responsibilities  so that the culprit gets the punishment she deserves,” she added.
Sippy’s younger brother, Jippy Sidhu, said that they will soon meet the CJI and Union Law Minister and take up the issue with them.
If summoned, Kalyani’s mother will appear before CBI, says counsel Counsel for accused, Advocate Sartej Singh Narula, meanwhile, said that some relatives, including Kalyani Singh’s father had already been questioned by the CBI in the case. He stated that if summoned, Kalyani’s mother, Justice Sabina, too would appear before the agency. The CBI will have to take permission from the Chief Justice of India in order to Justice Sabina for questioning in the case.
“Our priority right now is getting bail for Kalyani, which is our next step,” said Narula.

‘Cannot expect customer to carry goods in hands out of showroom’: UT Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission to Bata India

‘Cannot expect customer to carry goods in hands out of showroom’: UT Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission to Bata India

The UT Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, here on Friday, upheld the penalty of Rs 6,100, imposed by the District Consumer Commission on Bata India stating that “If the appellant (Bata India) claims itself to be responsible and environmentally conscious, then it should have given carry bags to the customers free of cost”… adding that “A consumer is not supposed to take those slippers, without any carry bag, in their hands out of the showroom. A carry bag is must to carry those slippers/goods.” Bata India, in its appeal before the state forum, had argued that they are a responsible corporate concerned towards environmental degradation and that the company added it is actively initiated various steps for the protection of the environment. The company had moved the state commission after being imposed the penalty at the district level.
The district commission, on a complaint filed by Harjas Singh of Mohali, had directed Bata to refund Rs 4, cost of the carry bag, besides Rs 1,100 as compensation for harassment and mental agony and Rs 5,000 as litigation expenses. Bata argued that the district commission failed to appreciate partial costs of paper bags, which were optional for a customer, were being charged in terms of the liberty granted by National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, New Delhi. It was also added that there was no mandate for manufacturers/ retailers to provide carry bags in addition to primary packaging, without charge. Harjas stated that Bata’s business is footwear and not a whole sale business forcing customers to purchase carry bags.
The State Commission said, “…if the appellant claims itself to be responsible… it should have given the bags free of cost as the price  [is] included in the profit margins”

Former Punjab health minister urges PM to give free admission to students back from Ukraine

Former Punjab health minister urges PM to give free admission to students back from Ukraine

Former Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding immediate admission of medical students returning from Ukraine to government and private colleges in India for free.
He said that no fee should be charged from these students who are already suffering from displacement and this should be arranged by the Government of India so that there would be no harm or disruption in their education.
Sidhu said that an estimated 19,000 Indian students were studying in Ukraine. The largest number of international students are Indians. These students study medicine, nursing and engineering. Sidhu further said that the government was taking credit for bringing back the students stranded in Ukraine in the name of Operation Ganga while the students have been saying that they did not receive any help from the Indian embassies and were starving.
“The major concern was that the Government of India was not giving any clear answer regarding the future of these students. Students who were studying in the final year or were studying in the second or third year or who had just got admission and are now returning to India in thousands, and are worried about their future,” Sidhu said in his letter.
