CM announces relaxation in insurance premium for journos

Narmadapuram (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a relaxation in the insurance premium amount for journalists under the ‘Journalists Health and Accident Insurance Scheme’ on Thursday. He stated that the state government will assume charge of filling the insurance premium amount of all journalists. In addition to this, CM has also declared that the new deadline to fill the insurance premium forms will be extended till September 30, which was earlier slated to shut down on Friday.Notably, the State President of Madhya Pradesh Working Journalists Union, Radhavallabh Sharda, had presented several issues before CM Chouhan earlier, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Sharda, while representing all the other journalists of the state, had informed Chouhan that the financial condition of the journalists had upended drastically after Covid-19 pandemic struck.

From today, parking free at Boat Club & 42 other lots in Bhopal | Bhopal News

From today, parking free at Boat Club & 42 other lots in Bhopal | Bhopal News

BHOPAL: From Sunday, May 1, barring three multilevel parking and select premium parking spots, three dozen-plus parking spaces in Bhopal will be ‘free’, according to a new Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) policy. The catch is, at the time of registration of a new vehicle, BMC will charge a one-time parking cess of Rs 200 to Rs 5,000.
From Sunday, parking at the Boat Club and 42 other BMC parking slots will be free. You will still have to pay at the multilevel parking at New Market, Bairagarh, MP Nagar, and select premium parking spaces at New Market, MP Nagar and other posh locations.
At a time when urban bodies are finding new avenues for increasing their revenue, BMC has gone in the reverse direction. Last month, TOI had highlighted that revenue from parking was less than 0.50 paise per vehicle in the state capital. Thousands of rupees were collected per day as parking fees but it never reached the BMC cashbook. BMC officials now admit that two private parking operators were non-functional for months. Investigation into what looks like a scam never took off.
Two yrs on, automated system still remains in parking mode
For now, the BMC line is free parking for the convenience of the citizens. “We received daily complaints of misbehavior with citizens in parking zones. Free parking will resolve this issue,” said BMC additional commissioner Shashvat Meena. BMC collected around Rs 2 crore as parking revenue.
Stepping back to two years before the pandemic hit, the MP urban development department had rolled out global tenders for ‘private operation and maintenance of parking’ in Bhopal. Companies with experience in operating parking in middle east and south-east Asia were expected to transform the situation. New tech and automated parking were aimed to reduce pilferage. Transparency and security were the key words, and the project was pegged as a smart city initiative.
The plan is still in ‘parked’ mode.
“I am not aware about the pre-pandemic situation and parking policy,” Meena said. “CCTV cameras and support from traffic police will be taken to ensure safety. We have informed DSP traffic about the new parking policy. Complaint numbers will be displayed if parking is charged,” he added.
The question remains, if parking is free, who is responsible for operation and maintenance? “Similar policy has been adopted by Indore. It has been a success,” he added. BMC officials refuse to give details, “In about 15 days we will have an impact assessment,” said Meena, adding that BMC expected a 50% revenue from free parking.

‘Movie should also be made on killings of Muslims’: MP IAS officer in trouble with govt over ‘Kashmir Files’ tweets

‘Movie should also be made on killings of Muslims’: MP IAS officer in trouble with govt over ‘Kashmir Files’ tweets

An IAS officer in Madhya Pradesh has run into trouble with the state government over tweets calling on the makers of The Kashmir Files to also produce movies on the “killings of (a) large number of Muslims across several states”.

Niyaz Khan, who is currently the deputy secretary in the state Public Works Department (PWD), tweeted last week, “Kashmir File shows the pain of Brahmins. They should be allowed to live safely in Kashmir with all honour. The producer must also make a movie to show the killings of large number of Muslims across several states…”
In another tweet on Sunday, the IAS officer congratulated the film’s producers on the movie touching the Rs 150-crore revenue mark, and said that since people had “given a lot of respect for Kashmiri Brahmins’ feelings” the film’s makers should “transfer all earnings to Brahmin children’s education” and build homes for them in Kashmir.
In response, The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri asked Khan for an appointment in Bhopal on March 25. “We can meet and exchange ideas how we can help and how you can help with the royalty of your books and your power as an IAS officer,” Agnihotri tweeted on Sunday.
Khan, who is the author of eight books, has also said he is thinking about writing a book on the “massacre of Muslims on different occasions” so that the “suffering of minorities could be brought before Indians”.
Taking umbrage at the IAS officer’s comments, state Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang accused him of “firqa parasti (sectarianism)” and called for his removal from the PWD.
The minister told reporters that Khan violated the IAS service conduct rules by making the comments, and added that he would complain against him to the personnel department.

“He has no right…The way he has started issuing statements and started a Twitter war, this is against the service rules,” Sarang said.

The Madhya Pradesh government has made The Kashmir Files tax free, and given police personnel a day off work to watch the movie with their family. Last week, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan watched the movie at a special screening in Bhopal along with ministers in his government and BJP MLAs.
Vivek Agnihotri and actor Akshay Kumar are all set to attend the three-day Chitra Bharti Film Festival (CBFF) that begins on March 25 at the new campus of the Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication.
