After Apple spilled the beans in its iPad video, the developer DaVinci Resolve has detailed the feature set for the release expected before the end of the year.
The forthcoming release of DaVinci Resolve for iPad was first revealed by Apple in its introduction to the new iPad Pro models. Now details of the app’s features and pricing have been announced, alongside the news that it will launch before the end of the year.
“DaVinci Resolve for iPad is truly a revolution for post production,” Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO, said in a statement. “Customers will have the power of Hollywood post production tools for editing and color correction literally in their hands, creating a whole new generation of creative editors and colorists.”
On the Mac, Windows, and Linux, DaVinci Resolve is a video editing suite that competes with Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere. Its main app is free, with certain limitations that tend to concern only the most high-end video production professionals.
Those professionals are served by a separate app called DaVinci Resolve Studio, which adds advanced HDR grading, more audio plugins and video filters, and so on. Blackmagic Design says this same model will apply to the iPad.
On release, DaVinci Resolve for iPad will be a complete video editing app that is free, but comes with an optional in-app purchase for an upgrade to a separate DaVinci Resolve Studio for iPad.
Blackmagic Design has not revealed a price for the in-app purchase to upgrade to DaVinci Resolve Studio for iPad. Its existing desktop equivalent costs $295.
The app is to be available for all iPads, but it is optimized for the M2-based iPad Pro. Blackmagic Design says the app requires iPadOS 16, and its features include:

  • Color pages and the app’s cut page optimized for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro display.
  • Supports HDR display on 12.9-inch iPad Pro with the M1 chip
  • Up to 4x Ultra HD ProRes render performance improvement with the M2 chip
  • Compatible with DaVinci Resolve 18 project files
  • Supports multi-user collaboration via Blackmagic Cloud
  • Supports H.264, H.265, ProRes and Blackmagic RAW media files
  • Supports clips from iPad storage, Photos library and iCloud
  • Import clips from external USB-C disks
  • Works with Apple Pencil, Magic Trackpad, Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio

It’s not clear what features come free, and which are premium.
“Compatibility with DaVinci Resolve 18 [for Mac] and Blackmagic Cloud, mean that customers can collaborate on the same timeline with other editors or colorists as well as audio engineers and VFX artists from literally anywhere in the world,” continued Petty. “I think it will be exciting to try out the new iPad version and I can’t wait to see how our customers use it, their creativity will be mind blowing.”

If DaVinci Resolve for iPad contains all of the functionality of its desktop version, it will be the first high-profile video editing app to come to the iPad complete. Adobe has previously released a cut down version of its video editor as Adobe Premiere Rush, and Apple has its entry-level iMovie already installed.
There is no Final Cut Pro for iPad. Industry professionals are reportedly pressing Apple to be more proactive with the development of its video editor.

The most exciting Apple products we’re hoping to see in 2022

The most exciting Apple products we’re hoping to see in 2022

Apple has already had a busy year with the launch of the iPhone SE 3 and Mac Pro in Spring and the reveal of iOS 16 at WWDC. But some of 2022’s most anticipated devices are expected to release in the fall, ahead of the crucial holiday shopping season. Apple is gearing up to release a number of new products, including the iPhone 14 series, the long-rumoured sequel to the iPad Pro and the second-generation AirPods Pro.
Here’s a look at four such Apple products we’re most excited to see in 2022.
iPhone 14 Max
Not iPhone 14 Pro Max but the iPhone 14 Max could be the most exciting smartphone of 2022. Think about the iPhone 14 Max as an affordable alternative to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Almost anything you can do with a larger iPhone, you can do with this device. So, who will be the target user for the iPhone 14 Max? At its simplest, it’s for anyone who wants a 6.7-inch iPhone but doesn’t necessarily want to spend over a lakh to get features that come with Apple’s iPhone Pro lineup, like triple cameras on the back, a 120Hz high-refresh-rate screen and Lidar support. The people who want a Max will likely be those upgrading from the iPhone X, iPhone 11 or iPhone 12 who want a larger screen but are also happy with a notch on the screen and dual cameras on the back. As reported in the past, neither the iPhone 14 nor the iPhone 14 Max will see the same level of upgrades as the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. According to a recent report, an iPhone 14 Max will be $200 cheaper than an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Currently, an iPhone 13 Pro Max starts at $1099 which would price an iPhone 14 Max at around $899.

iPad Pro 12.9
Apple’s high-end iPad Pro is getting a big upgrade this fall. But don’t expect a significant design change. Instead, the larger, 12.9-inch iPad Pro will still have the same design as the previous model. What’s new this could be support for wireless charging which requires the device’s back to have a glass back in order for inductive charging to work properly. This makes sense.  The updated iPad Pro in the larger 12.9-inch screen size could still continue to have miniLED backlighting, although the 11-inch model is not going to get the miniLED display. Expect both models to support 5G and M2 chips. Support for the Magic Keyboard will also be there, though we expect Apple to introduce a new version of the Apple Pencil with the iPad Pros. If your job involves a lot of writing or if you are a creative type and keep travelling for work, you will more features from the iPad Pro range.

AirPods Pro 2
The Airpods Pro are among the best wireless earbuds you can possibly buy on the market, but Apple hasn’t launched a new model since 2019. That might change this year with the second-generation AirPods Pro. The original AirPods Pro introduced premium features like active noise cancellation and a customisable fit and both things made Apple’s high-end earbuds popular in the segment. Given how tough the competition is, Apple needs to bring something new to make the AirPods 2 stand out from rival earbuds. With the AirPods Pro due for an upgrade this fall, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicts a new chip and improved sound. The next-generation AirPods Pro may support lossless audio, something that would make audiophiles really happy. Apple’s next AirPods Pro could have a more discreet, stem-free look similar to that of Beats Studio Buds. The AirPods Pro 2 may also get a new case. They might also have a built-in fitness tracking.
Entry-level iPad
For years, the entry-level iPad hasn’t got the same love as other Apple products. Sure, the base iPad model is aimed at students and average users but that doesn’t mean the device is any less important than Apple’s flagship products. Thankfully, Apple is finally ready to put the focus back on the entry-level iPad by giving a much-needed makeover. Although we don’t expect the upcoming entry-level iPad to look any close to iPad Air 5, even the slightest change to the design or specs would be more than enough. The buzz is high that the entry-level iPad is getting support for a bigger display, a USB-C port, a speedy A14 chipset, and an optional 5G connectivity. Apple’s entry-level iPad, which currently starts at $329, continues to be the most popular tablet on the market. Apple will have to find ways to improve the entry-level iPad as the competition from players like Xiaomi and Lenovo is getting intense lately.

Travel Apps Can Help You Save Money and Time

Travel Apps Can Help You Save Money and Time

Avoid traffic and fill up economically

Google Maps is already installed on all Android devices and available for iPhones, but road trippers should consider loading Waze. Also owned by Google, Waze is the world’s largest community-based navigation app.

By crowdsourcing traffic and road info from millions of users known as Wazers, the app gives you real-time information on the roads around you, including accidents, construction zones and speed traps. The goal is to give you the fastest and safest route to your destination.

The smart navigation app Nexit not only helps you get from point A to point B quickly, but also recommends stops along the way, such a gas station or restaurant you requested. Nexit won’t recommend a stop that’s behind you, like other mapping apps might do, even if it’s a little closer.

Nexit can save you money in addition to time. It will show you the cheapest gas and a hotel room within your specified limit. You can book your room from the app and load your loyalty cards to get rewards. Nexit is available now only for Apple devices.

Gas prices might be a deciding factor on whether you travel near or far this year. GasBuddy says it saves users an average of $340 a year on gas.

The app shows you which nearby stations have the lowest prices and provides maps if you don’t know an area. View gas stations by distance or price, plus you can see prices for regular, mid-grade, premium and diesel fuel.

GasBuddy has an optional card and rewards program that will help you save even more. It also can help you budget with a trip cost calculator, tips and tricks to use less gas, car recall info and optional in-app challenges you can accept to win free gas.

MacPaw is offering a free one-year subscription to ClearVPN, a promotion intended to keep the Internet open and usable during the ongoing international incident in the Ukraine.
The situation in the Ukraine has affected the entire tech world, and with communications being all-important at such times, it can be impacted by strategic maneuvers. For example, in the wake of Facebook and Twitter changing policies and stopping advertising in the Ukraine and Russia, a Russian regulator ordered to throttle both social media platforms in retaliation.
For people in territories that face such throttling efforts, one workaround is to use a VPN. Rather than forcing users into using potentially malicious free VPN services, MacPaw has taken a different tactic.
Free ClearVPN for 12 months
According to tweets from ClearVPN in support of the Ukraine, the app urges users to “share the truth” about events in the country. As part of the urging, it is providing a promo code to get a year of access to ClearVPN for free.
To claim the year, users must sign up for a free account at the ClearVPN website. Once signed up and in the account screen, users must click “Redeem a promocode” under Billing Info, and enter the code “SAVEUKRAINE” in the box.
As a warning, the code may not necessarily work the first time, with social media users posting notices that it is an “invalid code.” ClearVPN has said in a later Twitter post that it has already seen over 20,000 activations, and its servers are “a bit overloaded” from the attention.
If it doesn’t work first time, try again a bit later. .

7 of the Best Evernote Alternatives (and Why You Should Finally Switch)

7 of the Best Evernote Alternatives (and Why You Should Finally Switch)

Image for article titled 7 of the Best Evernote Alternatives (and Why You Should Finally Switch)Don’t think of OneNote as something that’s only for Windows users. Like many Microsoft apps, OneNote feels right at home on iPhone, Macs, and Android phones. There’s a pretty good web app, and a web clipper.
When it comes to platforms and support, OneNote is just as omnipresent as Evernote. And the free plan isn’t so bad either. You get access to features like audio notes, image attachments, reminders, tags, collaboration, OCR, and more, without paying a dime. And if you do pay for Microsoft 365, you get access to extra features like Math Assistant, Researcher, and more. But for most users, that isn’t necessary.OneNote storage is included with OneDrive, so you get 5GB for free, and you can upgrade to 100GB for $1.99/month. The only downside is the potential adjustment period. OneNote works quite differently from Evernote. OneNote organizes notes in sections, and the notes can be edited free-form. But once you get used to it, it’s smooth sailing. .
