The Detroit Lions have reportedly come to terms on a new contract extension for center Evan Brown. According to NFL Network, the deal is a one-year contract extension for the talented 25-year-old offensive lineman. Additional terms have yet to be made available. After center Frank Ragnow was lost for the season with a toe injury, Brown filled in admirably and gained the respect of teammates, the coaching staff and the front office. Soon after Ragnow went down with injury, Brown played 60 snaps against the Chicago Bears in Week 4, and the offensive line did not miss a beat.“I thought he played well,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said. “I thought he was solid. I thought he went in and really didn’t miss a beat. There was really only a couple of plays that I know he wishes he would have back, but I thought he went in and did a good job.”Recommended Lions ArticlesBrown, who will enter his fifth NFL season in 2022, entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of SMU. “Evan’s a very, very, very, very smart guy. He’s a highly intelligent dude,” teammate Jonah Jackson told reporters. “He knows ball, he knows what’s going on and he’s able to identify everything, process stuff fast. So when it comes to that aspect of the game, it’s not much of a drop-off at all.”© Raj Mehta-USA TODAY SportsJoin the AllLions CommunityBecome a premium AllLions member, which grants you access to all of our premium content and gets you a FREE subscription to Sports Illustrated! Detroit Lions free agency C.J. Moore re-signed by Brad Holmes
The Detroit Lions are bringing back special teams ace C.J. Moore. According to NFL Network, Moore will sign a one-year contract that is worth up to $2.4 million and includes $800,000 in guaranteed monies. Moore signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted rookie free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft. In 2021, Moore recorded 22 tackles and one interception. He earned a PFF grade of 82.6 on special teams, which ranked 26th of 218, and also earned a 59.2 grade on defense. When injuries besieged the Lions secondary, safety Will Harris was moved to the nickel cornerback position. As a result, Moore was slotted in defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn’s defense as the third safety. When Tracy Walker was out of the lineup due to coronavirus, Moore earned his first career start against the Arizona Cardinals.Recommended Lions ArticlesSpeaking with reporters late in the 2021 season, Moore explained that he has always remained confident he could contribute to the team beyond his role on special teams. The 26-year-old has been one of the Lions’ most consistent performers on special teams for the past three seasons.Moving forward, Moore will continue to develop in Detroit’s defense working with Glenn and defensive backs coach Aubrey Pleasant, who are all returning to Detroit next season. Detroit Lions NFL salary cap update ahead of free agency
The Detroit Lions have announced several new contract signings this week. As a result, the picture is slightly more clear regarding just how much salary cap space the team will have to spend in the next couple of weeks. The NFL announced that the 2022 salary cap for league teams will be $208,200,000. The Lions will add approximately $9.5 million in rollover funds and cap adjustments. This brings the total to $217,680,572 as a starting point for general manager Brad Holmes to work with. As has been constantly explained, the salary cap figures are fluid and can change daily. Here is now we came to our figure of the Lions having approximately $22 million in cap space. Recommended Lions Articles
- Trey Flowers being released will add the team $10.4 million in cap space.
- The top-51 contracts on the Lions current roster costs the team approximately $183,720,892.
- Estimating Josh Reynolds cap number in 2022 will be $3.5 million.
- The Lions re-signed Ryan McCollum and Rashod Berry, which figure to cost the team $1-2 million in cap space in total.
- It will likely cost the team $16 million to sign their 2022 draft class.
Here is how we ended up calculating the math associated with the cap (in millions):
- 217+10.4 = 227.4
- 183.7+3.5+2+16 = 205.2

NFL free agency Detroit Lions Trey Flowers will be released
Trey Flowers will not suit up again for the Detroit Lions. The Lions have reportedly informed the veteran defensive end that he will be released on the first day of the new league year, according to Lions beat writer Dave Birkett.“Yeah, you know Trey, you’re talking about the ultimate glue guy, ultimate leader,” general manager Brad Holmes said. “He’s what we’re all about, in terms of grit and being just a football player. So it was unfortunate what he had to deal with, but again, those discussions are going to be forward down the road.”The 28-year-old would have carried a salary-cap hit of $23.2 million for the 2022 season and $23.6 million for 2023.Since signing back in 2019, Flowers struggled to consistently remain available. He only appeared in 14 games the past two seasons.New defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn attempted to have Flowers play more outside linebacker during his first season in Motown, but he ended the 2021 season on injured reserve.Recommended Lions ArticlesAustin Bryant and Julian Okwara were called upon to fill in when Flowers was absent. Flowers contract was worth $90 million and included $56 million in guaranteed money. The Lions will save at least 10 million in cap space after moving on from the former New England Patriot.Join the AllLions CommunityBecome a premium AllLions member, which grants you access to all of our premium content and gets you a FREE subscription to Sports Illustrated! Detroit Lions free agency signings Jack Fox exclusive-rights free agents
The Detroit Lions announced on Wednesday afternoon that they have tendered 13 exclusive-rights free agents contracts. A player is considered an exclusive-rights free agent if they are on an expiring contract and have fewer than three accrued seasons. The tender is a one-year, veteran minimum contract and prohibits those players from negotiating with other teams. The following players were tendered by the Lions: Jack Fox, Scott Daly, Mark Gilbert, JuJu Hughes, Godwin Igwebuike, Tom Kennedy, Tommy Kraemer, Jessie Lemonier, Matt Nelson, Riley Peterson, , Bobby Price, Anthony Pittman and Brock Wright. Over the last 12 months, Fox has become a more complete player, as he worked to improve as a holder, an area he struggled with early in his NFL career. Lions special teams coordinator Dave Fipp detailed to reporters at one of his last media sessions of the season just how much Fox had improved as a holder. Recommended Lions Articles”I was critical with Fox as a holder and thought that he could improve in that area, and I think he’s really come a long ways, which is a credit to him,” Fipp said. “Some guys, punters are worried about punting the ball and a lot of what they’re graded on publicly is how well they punt, and I think holding goes a little bit unnoticed.”Join the AllLions CommunityBecome a premium AllLions member, which grants you access to all of our premium content and gets you a FREE subscription to Sports Illustrated!
