Top-ranked DFS player, Notorious, breaks down his favorite PGA DFS plays at various salary ranges for the coming week’s golf tournament. Who should you be building around? Find out below.
RBC Heritage
Even though there is a natural let-down after the greatest golf event in the world, the show must go on. The RBC Heritage has a surprisingly strong field, which should help ease the pain of leaving Augusta National and having to delete the always-wonderful Masters app. Harbour Town Golf Links is a Par 71 that measures 7,121 yards. It was designed by Pete Dye and like most of his courses, this one can’t be overpowered off the tee.
While the course features narrow fairways, the driving accuracy numbers here are fairly high each year. This has more to do with golfers clubbing down off the tee more than the fairways being easy to hit. It’s important to keep it in the short grass, as the fairways are tree-lined and there are plenty of water hazards on the course. I’m not sure raw driving accuracy will do us a ton of good given the fact that many will club down, but it is certainly preferred over distance.
The most notable part of the course are the greens. They measure about 3,700 square feet on average, which are absolutely tiny compared to most courses on the PGA Tour. For instance, Augusta National’s greens are about 6,700 square feet on average. Due to the small size, the greens are very difficult to hit here year in and year out. This places a big emphasis on approach play and on around the green play.
There aren’t many three-putts here, likely because the greens are so small in size. Ultimately, we should be looking for golfers that can keep it in play off the tee, golfers that are elite with their irons, and golfers that are good scramblers. If you like putting splits, these greens feature bermudagrass over-seeded with poa trivialis. Experience here doesn’t hurt given the predictive course history and experience on Pete Dye tracks is a positive as well.
