In its mission to create one of the world’s finest tequilas, vanguard distillery Volcan de mi Tierra has debuted Volcan X.A, an innovative blend of Reposado, Añejo, and Extra-Añejo tequilas, made from 100% Blue Agave and zero additives.

Driven by a passion to craft the best of what tequila can offer, Volcan de mi Tierra new ultra-premium spirit is a unique aromatic expression in a stunningly creative bottle design that pays tribute to the Volcano named Tequila.

“The tequila market continues to grow at a fast pace, providing an increasing level of taste and quality, and consumed in the trendiest bars, restaurants, and clubs. After a successful introduction of our three core products, Blanco, Reposado, and Cristalino, we are thrilled to launch Volcan X.A: a pure and ultimate expression of Volcan de mi Tierra savoir-faire, created to be appreciated around the best tables of the world. Created in 2017 in the volcanic region of Jalisco, Volcan de Mi Tierra combines the Gallardo family’s passion for its homeland and deep roots in Mexico, together with Moet Hennessy’s commitment to craftsmanship and luxury branding. Keeping true to the land the distillery sits on, it follows the rhythm and flow of the seasons, harvesting the highest-quality agave, grown in volcanic soils, and sourced from two terroirs, the “Highlands” and the “Lowlands”. It’s an approach that captures the essence and energy of the volcano’s raw natural power and allows different tequila profiles to come together in perfect harmony — and that stands true with the new Volcan X.A.

As a blended tequila, Volcan X.A aims to reinvent the art of aging, using Grace Casks, a specific barrel made with American oak, unveiling smooth, toasted, and vanilla aromas. The finished product is a blend of three tequilas: a Reposado base bringing the right level of sweetness and smoothness, and Añejo and Extra-Añejo adding aromatic balance and complexity. It takes 10 years to craft a single bottle of X.A, which supersedes all of today’s luxury tequila offerings.

We got the chance to chat with Santiago Cortina Gallardo, COO and board member for Volcán De Mi Tierra tequila about this special new expression.
This is a super exciting launch for the LVMH portfolio. What inspired this new expression?

Santiago Cortina Gallardo: Volcán X.A marks a new chapter for the distillery and its creation was driven by our burning passion to craft the world’s finest tequila. With the launch of X.A, we’re excited and proud to share a world class, ultra-premium expression that offers an unmatched level of taste, craft and quality. X.A pays homage to the Tequila volcano that erupted over 200,000 years ago and nourished the soils of Jalisco, as well as centuries of Mexican heritage and tequila-making tradition.

The agave category is one of the fastest growing groups of spirits lately, what makes X.A different from other ultra-premium brands on the market?
SCG: X.A is uncompromisingly crafted. No additives, shortcuts, or synthetics are utilized during the process, just 100% Blue Weber Agave which is aged in our proprietary Grace Casks made of American Oak.
X.A embraces duality and pushes boundaries by ushering in the ‘art of blending’ to the world of tequila. This unique blend is the highest expression of its kind; the Reposado base brings the right level of sweetness and smoothness, while Anejo and Extra-Anejo add aromatic elegance and complexity. This is not only a tequila, it is the creation of an unreplicable profile that enhances all the nuances of aging.
Aside from neat or on the rocks, how else would it be recommended to enjoy X.A?
SCG: Our goal for X.A was to create a tequila that’s incredibly smooth and easy to drink without the use of additives, something you’ll want to sip and savor all night. There’s no bite or after-taste, so you won’t feel the need to chase it with a lime or mask its flavor with other ingredients. Given the incredible quality and rarity of this tequila, I’d recommend only serving it neat or over ice and opting for an expression like Volcán Blanco when you’re looking to mix a cocktail.
Got it. Keep it simple and enjoy it neat. What led to the decision to make it only available in such limited places — you know, bottle service & high end restaurants?
SCG: Volcán X.A is produced in extremely limited quantities in our dedicated distillery, so we had to be very intentional about where it would be available. We chose to be readily available in select venues, about 250 restaurants and nightclubs worldwide, instead of widely available for a very limited time.
Nightclubs and elevated restaurants were the logical path for our distribution, given X.A’s price point, quality and striking bottle. These high-energy and elevated venues also allow us to reach our target consumers, who seek out highly exclusive, ultra-premium offerings.
