Today (is not) the day RPS premium supporters can pick The Longing or Ghost On The Shore as their next free game

UPDATE: Sorry folks, due to an unexpected technical hitch, we will NOT be going ahead with our key giveaway today. I’ll let you know the new date and time as soon as we have a fix. Apologies for the delay!

Original post below:
As you may have seen earlier in the week, today’s the day that RPS premium supporters can pick up another free game key to add to their ever-growing Steam libraries. From 5pm BST / 9am PT today, July 14th, premium supporters will be able to choose from one of two games we’ve got to give away: The Longing or Ghost On The Shore, both of which are gorgeous, contemplative games published by Application Systems Heidelberg. Here’s how to get them.
Much like our Have A Nice Death giveaway last week, key numbers are once again quite limited here, and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. They’ve kindly been provided by publisher Application Systems to celebrate the recent launch of musical puzzler Sonority, which indie expert Sin Vega recently wrote about for us in her regular Scout Report column.

Ghost On The Shore would normally cost £17.49/€20/$20 on Steam, GOG or Humble, while The Longing would be £13/€15/$15 on Steam. RPS premium supporters, however, can pick one for free today at no extra cost, and if there are any keys left over at the end of July, then you’ll be able to redeem a copy of the other one, too. No guarantees, though, unfortunately.
If you’re already a premium supporter, you should be able to claim your copy of either The Longing or Ghost On The Shore by logging in to your ReedPop ID and checking the codes page of your account. Once you’ve redeemed your code, you can boot up Steam, click ‘Activate a Product on Steam’ and copy in the key to start downloading.
And if you don’t currently support RPS but would like to, then you can check out the prices and tiers and sign-up here. Being a supporter helps keep RPS weird, but it also comes with other perks as well, including ad-free browsing and, at the premium tier, extra podcasts, posts, and cool game codes just like these.

Our Alice Bee was a big fan of The Longing when it came out, and she kept a diary of her in-game adventures. The almost real-time puzzler is a game where you, “a small servant to a subterranean rock king, must hang about while he has a nap for 400 days. 400 real-time days,” she wrote, which is nothing if not good value if you decide to pick this one up.
The Ghost On The Shore, meanwhile, isn’t a game we’ve written about on RPS yet, but this emotional exploration game sees you rock up on a forlorn-looking island and working with a friendly (but equally forlorn-looking) ghost to discover its secrets. On the plus side, it probably won’t take you 400 days to finish – one for the time-starved out there – although it does have a branching narrative and multiple endings to find if that’s your bag.
If you fancy picking up either game, make sure you log into your Reedpop ID account at 5pm BST / 9am PT today – that’s in just under an hour’s time. Thanks again for continuing to support RPS, and we hope you enjoy your game of choice.

After failed alliance talks with Obi, Kwankwaso picks popular cleric, Isaac Idahosa, as running mate

After failed alliance talks with Obi, Kwankwaso picks popular cleric, Isaac Idahosa, as running mate

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Thursday announced a bishop, Isaac Idahosa, as the running mate of Rabiu Kwankwaso, for the 2023 presidential election.
The choice of Mr Idahosa came almost six weeks after the collapse of an alliance talk with Peter Obi’s Labour Party (LP).
Both NNPP and LP were earlier working on a possible way of aligning forces of Messrs Kwankwaso and Obi on the same ticket as presidential and vice presidential candidates.
The talks allegedly failed due to the inability of the two to reach a compromise on who should take the number one and two slots.

After a meeting on Thursday, the party’s National Secretary, Dipo Olayoku, confirmed the development in a phone conversation.
He said the NNPP will release an official statement in respect to the news.
Mr Idahosa, an Edo State indigene, is a pastor at the popular Illumination Assembly.
Mr Obi has since picked a former senator, Yusuf Ahmed Datti as his running mate.

More to come…

Lagos Assembly sacks Service Commission Boss

Lagos Assembly sacks Service Commission Boss

In a unanimous decision on Thursday, the Lagos State House of Assembly voted for the sack of the chairman of the State House of Assembly Commission (LAHASCOM), Wale Mogaji.
Mr Mogaji’s sack was approved after a voice vote by members of the House at plenary.
The lawmakers appointed Folashade Latona as the new Secretary of the Commission.
Mrs Latona replaces Esther Lambo, who retired recently.
The House also confirmed Olalekan Onafeko as the substantive Clerk of the House while it elevated three other senior staff to Deputy Clerks.
The new Deputy Clerks include Babs Animashaun, Taiwo Otun, and Adenike Oshinowo.
Mr Onafeko was appointed Acting Clerk in 2020.

Earlier during the plenary, the House raised concerns over the recent boat mishap that led to the death of about 15 people on June 8 as well as the floods recorded in some parts of the state recently.

The lawmakers further said there was a need by the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to work towards a solution to the flooding incidents.

INEC suspends CVR after attack on officials in Enugu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in a local government in Enugu State following an attack on officials.
The unnamed officials of the commission were attacked by gunmen on Wednesday at a community primary school in Umuozzi Ward 19 of Igboeze North Local Government Area of the state.
While no casualty was recorded, the national spokesperson of the INEC, Festus Okoye, said staff members sustained different degrees of injuries as a result of the attack.
He said the commission also lost two of its registration machines while staff involved in the attack lost personal belongings.
“The gunmen fired sporadically into the air to disperse registrants and registration officials. In the ensuing stampede, one of our staff sustained injuries and is receiving treatment in a hospital.
“However, two voter registration machines and personal items of the staff such as mobile phones were lost,” he narrated.
“Consequently, Ward level registration of voters in Igboeze North is hereby suspended,” Mr Okoye said in a statement on Thursday.

Wednesday’s attack is the second on the INEC branch in the Igboeze North LGA of Enugu State in July.

Yet to be identified arsonists on July 3 attacked the commission’s office in the same LGA before setting the facility on fire.

The arsonists forced their way into the premises after overpowering security guards on duty.
No casualties were reported but 748 ballot boxes, 240 voting cubicles, office furniture and equipment were destroyed in the inferno created by the arsonists.
PREMIUM TIMES in May also reported an attack on the commission office in Igboeze South, a local government area close to where the latest attack occurred.

Osun 2022: APC, PDP clash over campaign venues in Osogbo

Osun 2022: APC, PDP clash over campaign venues in Osogbo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clashed on Thursday after the latter accused the ruling party of denying them the use of several venues for their rallies.
The development comes as political parties hold their last rallies in the state ahead of the July 16 governorship poll.
Out of 15 aspirants, Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the APC, Ademola Adeleke of the PDP, Yusuf Lasun of the Labour Party, Oyegoke Omigbodun of the SDP, and Akin Ogunbiyi of the Accord Party are seen as the major contenders.
On Wednesday, 13 parties, including the APC and PDP, signed a peace accord in Osogbo, promising to eschew violence before, during, and after the election.
Olawale Rasheed, Mr Adeleke’s media director, told PREMIUM TIMES that the governor “blocked us from using the stadium, the Freedom Park and Technical college for no reason.”
Mr Rasheed said they “confronted” the governor over his refusal to allow them to access the venue but “he claimed not to be aware. The buck stops on the Governor’s table.”
“We were denied usage of a public space,” he added.
Ajibola Bashiru, a senator and the director-general of the Gboyega Oyetola Campaign, said the PDP’s claims are untrue.

“Governor is not in charge of the stadium. The stadium management is in charge,” he said.
The locking up of the stadium in Osogbo forced the PDP to move their mega rally to the party secretariat in the capital, according to Diran Adeyemi, a chieftain of the party.
