For those who haven’t subscribed to PlayStation Plus before, Sony has good news – you can get it for free, provided you’re in the United Kingdom or New Zealand.
Sony is giving incoming PS Plus subscribers a chance to check out the Extra or Premium tiers for seven days. But, as is always the case, there’s a catch.
The free trial option is limited to those in the UK and New Zealand for now.
Before you sign up for the free period, you’ll have to choose if you want to subscribe to a monthly, quarterly, or annual PS Plus plan. Don’t worry, as you can cancel the subscription before the end of the trial period. This way, you won’t have to pay anything at all if you don’t like what you get – you just have to keep an eye out for when your trial ends.
Also, just to clarify, the new PS Plus trial is only available to those who haven’t subscribed to the service before. This initiative is only for brand new accounts.
The new PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers are worth getting for Stray alone.
Of course, Sony never said you couldn’t create a new PlayStation account just to check what the fuss about the new PS Plus is all about. If nothing else, you’ll waste a few minutes. But, don’t blame us if what you see will have you looking for your credit card. Sony never really did a great job marketing the new PS Plus and it won’t beat the Game Pass at all. Instead, the only thing that we can say is that the rebranded PS Plus is a massive improvement. With three tiers (Essential, Extra, and Deluxe / Premium), the more expensive tiers of the evolved PS Plus give subscribers access to hundreds of games, and Sony has only added more.

For example, Sony confirmed a new lineup of games coming to Extra and Deluxe / Premium this month. The main highlight of the PS Plus freebies is Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Marvel’s Avengers. You can also get a bunch of older Assassin’s Creed games like the Assassin’s Creed: Ezio Trilogy collection.
If that’s not enough, the cat adventure game, Stray, is also free for PS Plus Extra and Deluxe / Premium subscribers starting today, July 19. This is on top of the four freebies for PS Plus Essential tier subscribers that have been out since July 5.
