PlayStation is reportedly rolling out free trials for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscription tiers in a number of regions.
Many classic and current generation games are being offered through the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscription tiers. Before the tiered PS Plus service launched, free trials were commonplace for both PS Plus and PS Now, allowing players to try out the services before investing. The opportunity appears once more as PlayStation is offering free trials to players in some regions of the world.
The PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers are available at $99.99 and $119.99 respectively. An ever-expanding catalog is available for subscribers to access such as PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games. Additionally, Premium subscribers have access to a growing library of supported PS1, PS2, and PSP games. PS Now benefits are rolled into the Premium tier, allowing subscribers to stream classic PS3 games on PS4 and PS5. Furthermore, game trials are offered with the Premium subscription and supports save data transfers to the full game.

PlayStation is rolling out 7-day free trials of PS Plus Extra and Premium memberships across Europe. Users who have yet to purchase a PS Plus membership may redeem the free trial, and a credit card is required to sign up. One of the first countries to receive the free PS Plus Extra and Premium trials is Poland according to Polish outlet XGP. The free trials are expected to launch across the entire region on July 19.
PlayStation has not confirmed availability of the PS Plus Extra and Premium free trials in the US Japan, and other regions around the world. However, the existence of PS Plus and PS Now free trials in the past means the new trials are likely to launch in more regions soon after the European rollout. PlayStation is expected to share more information about the free trials since the tiered PS Plus service is relatively new in the gaming market.
Free trials for PS Plus Extra and Premium introduces more players into PlayStation’s ecosystem of services, and may help many decide to invest into a tier of PS Plus. PlayStation will likely reap the benefits of these free trials with an increase of new subscriptions, which will help the company bolster its capabilities with live-service games and services. It’s clear that the new PS Plus tiered service was constructed to appeal to active PS4 and PS5 users that want a continuous flow of games to play.
On the other hand, PlayStation needs to continue improving the PS Plus service for all users around the world. The service may continue to entice new customers with more classic games, and the availability of free trials allows users to access a large catalog of games without risk.
