Gabe’s sets grand opening date in Lexington and Childress Vineyards to host cork hunt for adults

Lexington’s Gabe’s store will open on April 9Davidson County shoppers don’t have long to wait until Gabe’s Department Store opens in Lexington.More: Davidson County manufacturers set to invest millions, create new jobs in exchange for state grantsThe store is set to open at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 9. Gifts will be given to the first 200 customers.In addition, the clothing and housewares department store has mailed coupons to get  $5 off $25 purchases to thousands of homes in Davidson County.The national retailer will be located at 37 Plaza Parkway, the former Magic Mart store in Lexington Parkway Plaza. Magic Mart opened in 2013 and closed in 2018. Gabe’s will fill the 62,150-square-foot anchor store location in the shopping center.The discount retailer was founded in 1961 in Morgantown, West Virginia, by brothers James and Arthur Gabriel as Gabriel Brothers Stores. The brother’s goal was to offer their communities quality products for ladies, men, kids, and home all at deeply discounted prices, according to the company’s website. Today, there are 119 Gabe’s stores in the U.S. There is a Gabe’s store in Winston-Salem on N.C. Highway 150. In 2005, new ownership rebranded the stores as Gabe’s.Cork Hunt set at Childress VineyardsChildren hunt for eggs at Easter, but adults in Davidson County hunt for wine corks.The 11th annual Easter Cork Hunt will take place in three rounds beginning at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. April 16 at Childress Vineyards in Lexington.Participants will win prizes by finding the most corks and the Golden Cork hidden in the vines.You must be 21 years or older to participate and tickets, which cost $5, are required and non-refundable. Check-in will take place one hour before each hunt on the courtyard.Space is limited to 50 individuals per hunt. Shoppers may receive one egg per person, per business, and do not need to make a purchase in order to get an egg.The prizes will be found on a ticket inside of the eggs, and that ticket must be submitted in-store in order to be redeemed.
